Purple Onion Designs SALE

Hope your Saturday is off to a great start! I'm headed to teach card class today at my favorite place to hang out, my LSS, Mementos! Here's my latest Purple Onion Designs card:
The butterfly was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored with Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Stamper's Big Brush Markers. The calendar background was inked with Pumice Stone Distress Ink and before stamping I removed some ink using a baby wipe.

And I just wanted to let you know that Purple Onion Designs is having a great sale and a mini release. All the designs in the mini release are from Stephanie Ackerman--love her unique style! Click HERE to check it out. This one is my fav:
Also, almost every individual sentiment is on sale for $1 or $2!! Special sale pages have been created for this sale. You can view them HERE. Hope you are having a great Saturday. I'll see you tomorrow with another peek in my sketchbook. HUGS!

POD & Stamper's Big Brush Markers

Today's card features all Purple Onion Designs stamps including Stems and Grass Set, Vintage 2011 Calendar, and Handwritten Holiday. The colorful grass and stems on this card were stamped using Faber-Castell Stamper's Big Brush Markers. I've had a couple questions about using these markers. To get the best impression you need to work fast when coloring your stamp. I also dab my stamp lightly with a baby wipe before coloring (helps the stamp stay wet longer). You will get a gorgeous watercolor effect. If you want your stamped impression to be more solid, go back and fill in/color your stamped image on the paper with your Big Brush Marker or PITT Artist Pen (great for small details and also to add shading). Next, I stamped the calendar stamp using Pumice Stone Distress Ink, removing some portions of the ink from the stamp with a baby wipe before stamping. Finally, I added Peeled Paint Distress Ink along the bottom and edges of the stamped panel.

Thanks for popping in this weekend! Hope you are blessed with lots of time to be crafty! :)

New App, POD card, and Tiff ROCKS! :)

Hi everyone! Several weeks ago a few of the designers for Purple Onion Designs had the opportunity to make a card for a new app, Sketches 4 Cards, available for the ipod touch, iphone, and ipad. This app contains over 100 different card sketches with a card sample and supply list for each. Click on THIS LINK for more information and to download the app. Here's a peek at the card I created using one of the fun sketches from the app and using all POD stamps:

Happy New Year and some POD inspiration

Happy New Year! I just can't believe it is 2011; can you? I have been reading some really great posts about the new year and wanted to share a couple of links. THIS post by Dawn McVey is such a great look at new years resolutions. I also love the idea of choosing a word for the year, as Ali Edwards talks about HERE. I am a perpetual planner, always plotting in my mind what I need to do next whether it be at work, around the house, creatively...and I know that often I don't pause and enjoy the moment enough. That being said, I have decided that my word for the year will be ...
content
"The man who counts his blessings far sooner than his burdens and seems to always have enough, that man is content."
Here are some dictionary definitions of content---
*showing satisfaction with things as they are
*form of fulfillment characterized by peace of mind
*heightened sense of appreciation - love that!

Speaking of being content :) , here's a picture of my hubby and I taken on Christmas eve. I figured it was time to post a more recent picture of myself as I will be headed to CHA this month and no one may recognize me with my longer hair and new glasses! :) And, yep, you heard me right-- I get to go to CHA!!!! I'm thrilled! :)

So, how about you? Have you made any resolutions for 2011?

Now, if you've made it through all that rambling, I do have a couple of cards for you! These cards feature some of my favorite stamps from Purple Onion Designs and one of my favorite stamping buddies, Joy Taylor. Here is Joy's eye-catching card that was my inspiration (talk about gorgeous distressing!):

On my card I used Vintage Butterfly and the Stems and Grass Set: Here's my take:
Thanks so much for making 2010 such a rewarding and inspired year on the blog-o! I can't wait to see what 2011 will hold! :) HUGS!

NEW STAMPS *Day 3* and a VIDEO

Yep, you read the title correctly, I've got more new stamps and..... A VIDEO. (Seriously, I made a stamping video!) To begin, here's the next holiday release by Purple Onion Designs (available, Friday 11/26). This image is great for coloring with Copics. Introducing Dasher's Delivery: Now, on to the video! Yes, I may be the last person to jump onto this bandwagon, so I hope you like it. The card and video are for the project of the week at my local scrapbook store, Mementos (supply list available at Mementos' web site). The stamp/style isn't my usual, but I had fun stretching my boundaries a bit. Here's the card:
Here's the video. I hope you enjoy!! :) Click on the bottom right-hand corner of the video to watch at youtube and to see the entire screen of the video (it seems to be cutting off part of the filming when you watch here on the blog.)

I'm soooo ready to do my next video-- any suggestions or particular technique you'd like to see? Hugs, my friends, and have a wonderful turkey day tomorrow!

Inspired by...photography (POD)

Hi everyone! Welcome back to another Purple Onion Saturday. Today I was inspired by the beautiful purple and orange colors in THIS PHOTO I saw on flickr. Here's my card:
First, I created the background by applying a light layer of Rusty Hinge Distress Ink to white cardstock. Then I inked up the Vintage Damask Background stamp by POD with Rusty Hinge Distress Ink:
Before stamping the large background, I misted it with water. Oh boy, I will be using this stamp lots in the future--so fun and a quick way to make a bold statement!
I also used the Late 1800's Script background and Single Stem by Purple Onion Designs.

Thanks for stopping by! See you on Monday with my next "Inspired by..." stamper! :)

Inspired by...Purple Onion Designers

Happy weekend! It's Saturday, so that means today our inspiration comes from one of my fellow Purple Onion designers. But before we begin with the cards, I wanted to let everyone know that Purple Onion Designs is celebrating its 7th anniversary! To show her appreciation, Michelle is offering all Purple Onion rubber stamps at 25% off. The sale ends Monday, July 26th, so you have just enough time to hop on over HERE and do a little shopping. :)

Okay, on to our cards. Today's featured designer is....Jennifer Holmes! Check out her fun card:I love this playful shaped card! It is just too cute! The pink felt flower is a fun touch of color which really pops against the pool blue background. And look at that ribbon leaf--so clever!! Finally, Jennifer has paired the perfect font for her sentiment as it suits this great "thanks" card to a "T!"
Here is my take:
These are the POD stamps I used on this card:
Stems and Grass Set
Late 1800's Script Background
Doodle Flower Sentiment Set
Thanks for stopping by! See you on Monday for our next "Inspired by..." stamper. Here's a hint:

Any guesses?
